EXPERIENCE

At an altitude of approx. 2200m above sea level and a 45 minutes drive from the popular hill station of nainital is located this small, quaint little village of Sigri , which is the part of the naina devi bird conservation reserve and the last village on the forest road that extends till the roadhead at kunjakharak . A perfect place for bird watching, and peaceful nature walks through the mixed forest of oak, deodhar and rhododendron , and fabulous views of the greater Himalayas, this place is definitely going to impress the travel bug in you . We have planned a three day excursion to this part of the kumaon Himalayas, which includes a bit of bird watching, village walk , trek to the top of the highest peak in the vicinity and night safari through the forest for that perfect blend of adventure and serenity

Day 1

Pick up from kathgodam at 11:40 a.m ( shatabadi starts from delhi at 6 a.m and reaches kathgodam at 11:35 a.m ) , and a 2 hour drive through nainital and the forests of kilbury to sigri, check into the campsite/resort , followed by lunch, some rest and an afternoon walk through the village doing some bird watching and interacting with the locals , evening snacks and bonfire, followed by a 1.5 hour night safari in a jeep with search lights through the forest road looking for the wild inhabitants of the reserve like mountain goat, sambhar , wild boar and if we are lucky leopard , leopard cat and even a himalyan black bear . post safari we head back to sigri for dinner and overnight .

Day 2

Some early morning bird watching near the resort/campsite , and a drive till cheer point to look for the elusive cheer pheasant, koklaas pheasant etc. and a 180 degree view of the greater himalayas( from November till march) , back to the resort/campsite for breakfast and a two hour rest. Post lunch, we embark on a two hour easy trek to the top of the brahmasthal peak , the highest peak in the region with a temple in the midst of complete wilderness, add to it stunning views of the himalayas, kosi valley and the districts of ranikhet and Almora on a clear day . we could also chance upon some mammals like barking deer and mountain goat and pheasants like khaleej on our way up and down the slope. Back to the camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3

A morning walk through another part of the village , interacting with the village folks , learning about their culture and history and their frequent encounters with leopards as we make our way back to the camp/resort for breakfast . post breakfast, a 2 hour drive takes us back to kathgodam for onwards journey.
